About Us

Sunlight Foundation NFP was conceived in November 2020 when co-founders Vanessa Newsome and Anna Russell-Terry decided to purchase winter accessories for women and children living in a homeless shelter. With donations and help of a few other people, 81 gift bags with winter accessories were distributed. The seed was planted.

Both ladies always wanted to start an organization that helped and impacted the lives of people, so the planning began.  Sunlight Foundation NFP was born and incorporated on January 11, 2021.

Sunlight Foundation NFP is currently a volunteer organization led by a Board of Directors.  The Executive Director consults with an Advisory Board for insight and program direction for our focus areas.  Volunteers help in carrying  out the work and activities of the organization.

During our first two years, our focus has primarily been on activities supporting the homeless population.  Our desire is not to duplicate the work of others, but to support the efforts of organizations providing services to those in need of shelter.  In 2021, we expanded to incorporate hygiene and personal care products.  Bags are distributed to shelters during November in recognition of Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week.

As we move into our third year of operation we will incorporate awareness of Heart Disease and Breast Cancer.  Expansion of our Homelessness Initiative will include a Hygiene Bank.  We will also include an initiative focusing on families transitioning into their own homes.
